Mental Health Training FAQ’s

Frequently asked questions about Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and QPR Suicide Prevention Trainings offered by Linn County Health Services.

Can I take both MHFA and QPR trainings?

Yes. Many people find that MHFA and QPR complement each other. MHFA provides a broad overview of mental health challenges, while QPR focuses specifically on suicide prevention. Taking both can strengthen your ability to support others.

Do I need prior experience in mental health to attend?

No prior experience or mental health knowledge is needed! Both MHFA and QPR are designed for the general public, and use accessible, easy-to-understand language and materials.

How long are the trainings?

The Mental Health First Aid trainings are full-day trainings. The adult-focused version (Adult Mental Health First Aid) is 8 hours, and the youth-focused version (Youth Mental Health First Aid) is 6 1/2 hours. The schedule for Mental Health First Aid trainings includes a lunch break and two additional 15-minute breaks.

QPR Suicide Prevention Trainings are 90 minutes.
