I Don’t Want My Kids to Struggle with Alcohol
As parents, it’s only natural to worry about our children’s futures, especially when it comes to tough topics like alcohol. We want the best for them, and the good news is there are proactive steps we can take.
Research shows that delaying alcohol use can significantly reduce the risk of developing a problem with alcohol. In fact, teens who start drinking early are four times more likely to struggle with alcohol later in life compared to those who wait until the legal age of 21.*
The longer youth delay alcohol use, the less likely they are to develop problems associated with it.

In Oregon, the majority of teens do not drink alcohol. Of those who do, the average age they start to drink is 15 years old (SAMHSA 2022 State Report). Set your kids up for success by talking to them early about your rules and expectations.
